Rebates & Incentives

There are a number of generous government rebates and incentives now available for switching to solar power. Some of these incentives may be short-lived and can significantly reduce the up-front costs and payback period for going solar.

Your Home Green solar consultant will ensure that you maximise the benefit of all state and federal incentives available to you.

Now is the time to take advantage and make the switch to solar!

Feed-in-Tariff:

A feed-in tariff is the rate paid for electricity fed back into the electricity grid from a designated renewable electricity generation source such as a rooftop solar power system.

The Victorian State Government is introducing a new Transitional Premium Feed-in Tariff (TFIT) for all customers with solar photovoltaic systems five kilowatts or less. The Tariff will be available from January 1st 2012 and will run for five years from the scheme’s commencement, subject to changes in government policy.

The new TFIT will offer customers a minimum 0.25c (per kilowatt hour) premium net feed-in tariff for solar power grid connected systems. When a home produces more solar electricity than is being consumed, the excess (net) is exported to the grid and the home owner receives the premium feed-in tariff in the form of a reduced power bill or a cash payment.

However it is expected that, as was the case with the previous tariff offer, some energy retailers will offer up to 0.08 cents on top of the 0.25c minimum, bringing the payback per kilowatt to approximately 0.33c, depending on the retailer.

In the interim, from now until January 1st 2012, the Government has set a Standard Feed-in Tariff (SFIT) that offers customers a minimum of 1:1 in which customers are paid no less than what their energy provider charges them for electricity.

We recommend that householders shop around for solar-friendly electricity retailers when considering accessing feed in tariffs. Your Home Green Solar Consultant can help you find the best energy retail deals for your situation.

Solar Credits:

The Solar Credits scheme is part of the Renewable Energy Electricity Act 2000,  introduced on August 20th, 2009.

Under this federal scheme, eligible solar power systems are entitled to a certain number of Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) which are worth a cash value through an STC Market. A majority of owners choose to assign their STCs to a registered agent such as a retailer/installer in exchange for an upfront discount.

STCs are a representative of the benefit of your system in offsetting your carbon footprint.

Currently, the Solar Credits scheme can slash the cost of your system by as much as 20-30%!
